Learning how to set up my blog

I have always wanted to have a blog site and usually end up giving up on it...today I am working on choosing a background and header and elements for my site.  It's a bit frustrating and I feel like I am fighting the gadgets.  I will get the hang of it.  I guess I need to just read the directions carefully.
